This is one of my research that I applied some theories that I have learned in theory module. In this research I interviewed people from different countries and cultures. For example, I let my class mate and some student from music department listen to the music which are the Thai traditional one and the Thai pop song to get their feeling, feed back, images, ideas and information about the music. My interviewees give their feedback to me by talking to a camera. The way that I used was quite similar to the way that we discussed about PANZANI ad. But this time I turned the way that people looking at the image to let them listening to the music. At this point the idea of signifier, signified, connotation, and denotation have been considered by the interviewee and myself.

my project: To show how the music, especially the influence of Thai traditional and Thai pop music (western style by Thai musician) has an impact on people in term of the imagination and visual image. People from different background had the differences perspective on the music. For example, music always reminds me of something whether I listen to the music with the English lyrics which sometimes I never understand. This project will focus on two main elements. Firstly, the music, it will focus on two different songs that I have been listening while I am living in London which are my father song (western pop style), and Thai traditional song which I just listen to it but not hear it until I came to London. Secondly, the images that comes through my mind when I am listening to those songs and my feeling when I live so far away from my home town at this point the culture shock and the stage of adjustment experienced during orientation will be used as a plot and sequence on my project. The idea is to combine two songs with images from my perspective (Eastern view or theirs perspective) to the Western (ours) country like London. This project will explore how the music works with the image and represents the image of the West through the East’s lens. This is only one perspective from a young Thai person (the other) who lives in London on the music which has been influenced him since he was born until now. I would say that ‘music can bring you back to your origin’.

I chose to study Fine and Applied Arts in Communications Design at Bangkok University for my Bachelor Degree but I was especially interested in the Video Production course, as it taught me how to produce documentaries, short films and advertisements. I deeply enjoyed this because I could acquire a great deal of knowledge and put it together into one project by arranging compositions, gathering ideas, writing scripts, making graphics, cutting and editing. This course also taught me how to deal with many problems during the film-making process.

For my work experience, I had an opportunity to work at Warner Music Thailand as Advertising Production Executive. My responsibilities were to design and develop all media used in Sales and Advertising. My work was divided into two types. First, I dealt with international artists, adapting files and footage from overseas to fit local use. Second, I dealt with local artists, thinking of concepts that suited the artist and developing artwork throughout production. I made logos, tape and CD covers, posters, and printed ads. I also wrote scripts by myself, recorded, edited and coordinated with the broadcasted station for TV spots and special TV programmes.

My interest developed further in media, especially in Film and Television through the Bridging Diploma for International Students at the Language Centre, Royal Holloway 2005-2006. In particular, I have had an opportunity to take one academic subject in the Media and Arts department which is called Critical Theory and Textual Analysis. This course gave me an opportunity to take part in lectures, and discuss film and television with native students in seminar discussions. In terms of content of this course I have learned much more about critical film and TV analysis and 'Orientalism and The King and I: An analysis of how the East is represented in 1950s Hollywood' is the title of my independent project from this course. All of these experiences are challenging me to improve myself and have also made me gain confidence in my ability to study in the UK.
